Sollers Point Junior Senior High School was located in Turner Station, Baltimore County, Maryland. The school was built in 1948 to provide continuing education, beyond the elementary school system, for African American students that lived in separate Black communities located within the vicinity of the Bethlehem Steel Company. The Black communities included Sparrows Point, Turner Station and the Cottage Grove areas. The elementary schools included Bragg located in Sparrows Point, and Fleming and Turner elementary schools located in Turner Station. Bethlehem Steel Company was located at Sparrows Point, Maryland. The first graduating class of Sollers Point High School was in 1949. Just as all high schools in Baltimore County the 1949 class only went to the 11Th grade. Beginning in 1950, all Baltimore County High Schools added a 12th grade. Because the County added a 12th grade in 1950, there was no 1950 graduation class. The last graduating class of Sollers Point High School was 1966. The demise of Sollers Point High School began with the integration of the Baltimore County School systems. It was decided that the last graduation class of Sollers Point High would be the graduation class of 1966. Black students that lived in Sparrow Point would attend Sparrows Point High School. Black students that lived in Cottage Grove would attend Patapsco High School. Black students of Turner Station would attend Dundalk High School. Sollers Point would cease to exist. Only the building remained. The Sollers Point High School life span covered 1948 – 1966 and was closed for ever. One day I was looking for a particular Sollers Point High year book and could not find it. I contacted graduates of Sollers Point. I contacted the Sollers Point community. I contacted the Sollers Point Technical School. I contacted the Dundalk Historical Society. The year book was nowhere to be found. I also discovered that it was not just that one year book, but there were only a few year books that I was able to locate. It immediately became a mission of mine to locate as many of the Sollers Point High School yearbooks, and to digitize and publish them for future reference and to preserve them for posterity. It is my desire to see that the Dundalk Historical Society, the Sollers Point Technical School, the Sollers Point Historical Society and the public in general to have access to these historical artifacts. Therefore, I have published this series of books of the Sollers Point High School yearbooks!
